In an elegant private setting within the walls of old Alcudia, a buffet luncheon was held recently in honour of Don Gonzalo Gonzalez, pictured right reading a farewell card, who has retired as senior teacher of Castiliano Spanish to foreigners at Alcudia’s Adult Education School.

Don Gonzalo has taught many nationalities over the years and has been well-liked and respected by his students for his skill, patience, enthusiasm and splendid sense of humour. He will be sorely missed. Not only did his pupils learn about the language, Don Gonzalo opened the door for many to begin to understand the Mallorcan culture - a great help towards integration in the community. His students presented him with a travel voucher (to which the travel agent added a wheeled suitcase) as a leaving present. All those fortunate enough to have been taught by Don Gonzalo wish him a long and happy retirement.
